About

My Story

Hello I'm Jo! I live on the south coast of England and have always loved being by the sea and all things coastal. I also love sewing and have done since I was 5 years old. In 2015, I decided to merge my two passions to create my quirky, little textile design business - The Seaside Sew......

I have always loved to be creative in some shape or form. It all started with a simple hanging beach hut - which has now become my signature design. For most of my designs I use custom made patterns. I have a vintage Singer 201K which I love to use to make my creations. Heaven for me is sourcing good quality, beautiful fabrics and creating new, exciting designs. I have a keen eye for colour and design so you can be assured that your item will be totally unique, hand crafted with love and beautifully presented.

Obsessed with all things seaside I regularly explore our local beach to collect driftwood and shells to accessorise my creations, Let me make something original and gorgeous for you. Feel free to get in touch at any time. Everything is handmade and can be customised or personalised to whatever requirement you have!

Love Jo x x

You can find me on most days on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where I'll be letting the world know what I'm up to or just what I'm thinking about today.

Theo Paphitis selects The Seaside Sew as one of his Small Business Sunday winners!

"Former dragon backs unique bag designer's firm"

In March 2017, Joanne Melton, owner of The Seaside Sew, tweeted Theo about her business during Small Business Sunday and was one of six weekly winners selected personally by Theo. As a winner of the weekly competition, Joanne was thrilled to gain a retweet by Theo to his 500,000 Twitter followers. The weekly initiative, set up by Theo in 2010, now has 1,700 #SBS winners and supports small businesses in the UK. Theo retweeted Joanne’s message to his 500,000 followers and as a result, theseasidesew.co.uk has seen a boost in Twitter followers and extra orders for their handmade products. Joanne, from Stubbington, said: ‘We’ve only been in business two years and although I still work out of my garden shed during the summer, things are certainly starting to look up for the business. It is great to have support from Theo because it’s been tough trying to raise our profile and Theo has recognised our hard work and helped spread the word about what we do to his followers on Twitter.’ Theo said: ‘We are thrilled to welcome new Small Business Sunday winners and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK and I wish The Seaside Sew every success.’
